Valencia Basket opens its quarterfinal series vs. Dreamland Gran Canaria with the support of La Fonteta

Liga Endesa Playoffs

Miguel Ángel Polo

Valencia Basket men’s first team will have the support of their home crowd as they face the first game of their Endesa League Playoff quarterfinal series against Dreamland Gran Canaria (Monday 2nd, 19:00h, Fonteta, Movistar Plus+/Movistar+ Deportes). This marks the opening chapter of a best-of-three series against one of the opponents that has caused us the most trouble so far this season.

After a strong finish to the Regular Season with four consecutive wins — which propelled them to second place on the final round (including a victory over this same opponent three weeks ago at La Fonteta) — the Taronja squad leaves behind a record-breaking Regular Season to start fresh in the title playoffs, a stage that has eluded them in recent seasons.

This will be the second time these two teams face off in the ACB Playoffs, the previous one being the 2018 quarterfinals, which went to the yellow side after an overtime win in Game 3 at La Fonteta. Of the three matchups played so far this season, two were won by the Canary Islands team. The most recent meeting — on Round 31 of the Endesa League at La Fonteta — saw Valencia Basket deliver an outstanding third quarter to overcome a deficit and claim a win by 86-79, breaking a four-game losing streak against Dreamland Gran Canaria.

In addition to the long-term injury of Ethan Happ, point guard Stefan Jovic has missed recent games due to ongoing elbow discomfort, and the team is racing against time to recover power forward Nate Sestina, who had to leave last Friday’s game after twisting his right ankle.
